Another day, another iOS-based telepresence rig. The Helios is a tiny little two-wheeled car that drives around with your iPhone or Touch in the passenger seat, allowing you to move around a scene and interact with remote subjects through the magic of telepresence.

They are raising money through Kickstarter.

Telepresence is a hard nut to crack. People just aren?t that comfortable having a robotic intermediary. But as this generation grows up with video calling and home robotics, I suspect it will be much easier to ? as the above image suggests ? roll out into the park with your SO.

From the creator, Tian Long Wang:

We are currently on the third iteration of Helios. The first model was developed during the Spring 2012 hackathon at Princeton University. This version was built on a trackpad platform by Robotshop and took first place int he hardware category of the hackathon. After some problems with the tracked moving parts, the second version of of Helios was built on the Boebot platform. As our development of the hardware continued, we created the third and current version with the help of SeeedStudio, one of the largest electronics manufacturers in China. The current version employs personal electronic circuits in addition to a completely new body design, manufactured through CNC and 3D plastic printing. For larger volumes, we will use injection molding for all plastic part, which also allows for a glossier look. As outlined, the pricing tiers represent actual manufacturing quotes from SeeedStudio.

The robot will cost $120 when it ships, but early buyers can get it for $99. The project is at $3,000 of a $50,000 pledge request so this might end up in the dustbin of telepresence robot history, but perhaps someone out there will buy 5,000 of them and send entire robot drone armies through the streets of major American cities. A guy can dream?

College Football Pick ?Em, Week 5

College Football Pick ‘Em, Week 5

So the last weekend of September got started with a bang last night. The Washington Huskies came up with a big Thursday night win, upsetting the #8 Stanford Cardinal. This result could portend for a better than expected slate for this week. A number of ranked teams are taking on unranked foes in what many view as games that should be little more than speed bumps. Hopefully this teams harboring BCS dreams paid attention to last night?s result. As for last week?s results, I took a slight dip to .500 with a 5-5 mark (now 17-13 on the season). As for this week, we have a full slate that should keep you entertained for the entire day, even if it lacks the marquee matchups like last week. Enjoy this week?s picks, and be sure to wager (semi-) responsibly.

12 PM ? #25 Baylor (+11) over #9 WEST VIRGINIA
I am expecting a shoot out in this one to get the day started.? WVU was a bit lackadaisical in an early game against Maryland last Saturday.? The Mountaineers will be ready to play a full four quarters this week, and will resist the urge to look ahead to next week?s big game with Texas in Austin.? West Virginia will need to play till the last whistle, however, because the Bears sure know how to put up points in a hurry.? You can question Baylor?s opposition to date, but be sure to ask Arkansas and Auburn if Louisiana-Monroe is an easy out (and Baylor was the only one of the bunch to play the Warhawks on the road).? Nick Florence has put up some big numbers so far as RGIII?s replacement, but WVU has too many weapons.? The Mountaineers will pull it out in this video game affair.
Final Score: West Virginia Mountaineers 45, Baylor Bears 40

12 PM ? TEXAS A&M (-13.5) over Arkansas
The wheels have completely come of the cart at Arkansas.? Not even in their worst dreams would the Razorbacks have expected to see themselves at 1-3.? The Aggies, meanwhile, have bounced back for two easy victories since their season-opening loss to Florida.? A&M has some nice balance on offense and must be pleased with the early season play of redshirt frosh QB Johnny Manziel.? The Hogs, meanwhile, have a non-existent running game (despite having stud senior RB Knile Davis) and a porous defense.? Add in a rocking crowd at Kyle Field, and Arkansas will have their backs against the wall.? This is a make-or-break kind of game for U of A, but the signs all point toward a dominant performance from A&M.
Final Score: Texas A&M Aggies 38, Arkansas Razorbacks 21

3:30 PM ? #5 GEORGIA (-14) over TennesseeHow ?bout them Dawgs!? UGA dominated every facet of the game last Saturday against Vandy.? The Vols, on the other hand, got much more than they bargained for with Terry Bowden?s Akron Zips giving them a game well into the fourth quarter.? UT will air it out in this one, but the UGA defense will be at full strength for the first time all season.? Here?s thinking that LB Alec Ogletree and All-American FS Bacarri Rambo will be chomping at the bit once they get on the field and make an immediate difference.? Combine that excitement from the D with likely the best balance of any offense in the SEC, and the Bulldogs will roll to an easier than expected W in front of the home crowd in Athens.
Final Score: Georgia Bulldogs 34, Tennessee Volunteers 14

3:30 PM ? #14 Ohio State (+3) over #20 MICHIGAN STATE
I have gone back and forth on this one all week.? Through four games, the Buckeyes still have not played a complete game.? If they do not do so this Saturday, they will likely leave East Lansing with their first loss of the season.? The Spartans, meanwhile, seem incapable of generating any offense outside of stud RB Le?Veon Bell.? OSU is going to crowd the line of scrimmage on defense and dare Michigan State QB Andrew Maxwell to beat the Bucks through the air.? The Spartans sturdy D will do everything to contain the edges and not let Ohio State QB Braxton Miller beat them with his feet or the intermediate passing game.? It will be a stereotypically Big Ten, low-scoring affair outside Michigan?s state capital, but the MSU fans will go home disappointed with the College GameDay Crew in town.
Final Score: Ohio State Buckeyes 20, Michigan State Spartans 17

3:30 PM ? Cincinnati (+6.5) over Virginia Tech (in Landover, MD)It will be a de facto home game for the Hokies at FedEx Field, just outside our nation?s capital.? VT bounced back from its shocking loss to Pitt with an easy victory over Bowling Green last Saturday.? The Bearcats, meanwhile, had its second week off of the season and make the trip in at 2-0.? The Hokies have not performed up to expectations this year.? QB Logan Thomas entered the season as a potential early 1st round draft pick, but has not come close to that hype.? Virginia Tech also lacks a dynamic running back, which has rarely been the case over the last ten years.? The Bearcats, on the other hand, have had no problems churning yards on the ground so far.? The early results suggest that Cincy might have also figured out how to play some defense, which hasn?t always been the case in recent years.? We will know a lot more about both squads come 7 PM Saturday, but my hunch tells me the Bearcats return home with a big win and a lot of momentum going into October.
Final Score: Cincinnati Bearcats 31, Virginia Tech Hokies 26

6 PM ? #4 Florida State (-17) over SOUTH FLORIDA
The Noles are riding high after the big win against Clemson last Saturday night.? They make their first road trip of the season down to Tampa for what could be a trap game against USF, who lost at Ball State last week.? Skip Holtz?s tenure in charge of the Bulls has yielded mixed results so far, and this game gives him a shot at the biggest win of his career.? Unfortunately for the home team, this Florida State squad is playing great football.? The Seminoles will run the bull down South Florida?s throat in this one, and their menacing defensive line will hit and hurry Bulls QB B.J. Daniels all day long.? There will be no repeat of 2009, as Florida State takes this one easily.
Final Score: Florida State Seminoles 42, South Florida Bulls 16

7:00 PM ? Texas Tech (-2.5) over IOWA STATEIt?s an unlikely matchup of unbeaten teams in this one.? They both enter Big 12 play coming off an open week.? Although the Red Raiders and Cyclones are both 3-0, they can credit some soft scheduling for that one (ISU?s win over Iowa being the only one that could be considered ?notable?).? Tommy Tuberville has tried to build Texas Tech around strong defense and a steady running game, yet they still haven?t forgotten how to air it out in Lubbock.? That D will be the key to containing Cyclones QB Steele Jantz and an underrated running attack, as Texas Tech will escape Ames with its unblemished record still intact.
Final Score: Texas Tech Red Raiders 30, Iowa State Cyclones 23

7:50 PM ? #12 Texas (-2.5) over OKLAHOMA STATE
The line has swung 8 points since it opened with Ok State as a 5.5 point favorite.? The movement has been driven in large part by the uncertain status of Cowboys QB Wes Lunt.? Both squads have had two weeks to prepare for this one, and I suspect they spent a lot of time making defensive adjustments.? The potential is there for this one to turn into a track meet, just like the Pokes? week two game with Arizona.? That being said, I think the Longhorns defense will be much improved compared to its last outing against Ole Miss.? Oklahoma State will still have some success airing it out, but UT will control play on both lines and will wear out the Cowboys defense with its punishing ground game.? It should be a good game, but Texas will dominate the time of possession battle to keep it from becoming a wild one.
Final Score: Texas Longhorns 35, Oklahoma State Cowboys 28

8 PM ? #22 NEBRASKA (-11.5) over Wisconsin
Where has the Badgers offense gone?? That seems to be the question in Madison.? The vaunted ground game, lead by Montee Ball, has been anemic, while their passing game has been nearly non-existent.? Wisconsin?s defense is solely to credit for their shaky 3-1 start against not so stellar competition.? The Cornhuskers, meanwhile, have rebounded with a couple easy wins since dropping an early game against UCLA.? A healthy Rex Burkhead should lead the charge for Nebraska in this one.? Early success on the group should open up some passing lanes for Huskers QB Taylor Martinez.? The Badgers offense will once again be out manned in this one, and the home crowd in Lincoln will help carry Nebraska to a crucial win in this Big Ten opener for both teams.
Final Score: Nebraska Cornhuskers 31, Wisconsin Badgers 17

10 PM ? #18 Oregon State (+3) over ARIZONAAn intriguing matchup for the Pac-12 night cap.? The Wildcats self-destructed with turnovers last week against Oregon.? You have to wonder what sort of effect that performance with have this week (and beyond) for Arizona.? Oregon State, however, got a big road win over UCLA in its conference opener.? The Beavers recipe for success this year has revolved around a strong passing game and a suffocating run defense.? This is another game that I have gone back and forth on.? I like that Arizona can hurt you running or throwing the ball, but the turnovers last week are troublesome and their defense is a work in progress.? The Beavers play strong, opportunistic defense, but their ground game can charitably be described as weak.? In the end, I have a fewer concerns about the Beavers, so I will take them in this one.
Final Score: Oregon State Beavers 34, Arizona Wildcats 31

5 Bills That Won't Rebuild Credit After Bankruptcy | Credit Solutions

reviewing bankruptcy - Quizzle.comIn these difficult economic times, unfortunately, many good people have had no choice but to declare bankruptcy and start over. Bankruptcy, of course, isn?t a permanent condition?eventually, these folks will re-emerge, and when they do, most have roughly the same question: how do I rebuild my credit?

Get the best money tips at Credit Visionary

Building your reports and scores back up is an important part of re-joining the credit community, if you will. The fundamentals are much the same as when you started building credit in the first place?you need to prove your creditworthiness and reliability as a borrower. This largely means paying various bills on time, or repaying any outstanding loans on schedule.

But you might be surprised which bills don?t really help you rebuild credit.

Today, Quizzologists are focusing on accounts that you may very well need, but which won?t play a big part in restoring your credit to health.

Among these not-very-helpful bills:

Rent: You need to live somewhere, sure, but the mere act of paying your rent won?t help you. Conversely, however, failure to pay can result in actions in small claims court, and collections agencies can be put on the job of recouping what?s owed. This can cause major problems for your ability to rent apartments or houses in the future.

Medical Bills: If you don?t have your health, what do you have? Well, not much, but paying off these bills won?t improve the health of your credit. The monthly payment you make won?t get reported to the credit bureaus?but failing to keep up with your schedule, most times, will be.

Cell Phones: Another item you may have to pay for, but don?t expect any reward for doing so on time, it won?t get reported. While being a little late shouldn?t hurt you too bad, if you start to go 30 to 60 days delinquent, you?re heading back into the kind of trouble you just got out of.

Utilities: Keeping the lights and stove on, (like keeping a phone in service), are viewed as basic necessities, not great opportunities to demonstrate your renewed ability to borrow and pay back loans to future creditors. By all means, let there be light, but it won?t rebuild your score.

Federal/State Tax Liens: Staying on Uncle Sam?s good side is important, no doubt, but if you?ve had a lien placed against you, it won?t drop off your reports and scores until it?s fully satisfied. So, alas, no bonus brownie points for getting right with the government.

If you?ve declared bankruptcy, these kinds of bills and accounts won?t give you any extra opportunities to rebuild your battered scores. The (semi-) good news: you?re not alone. With the glut of bankruptcies in recent years, many companies are finding themselves having to be more forgiving and flexible in terms of who they choose to do business with.

Another helpful ally in this process is your bank. Ask them what lines of credit they might extend that you can grab hold of to help lift you out of your bankruptcy rut.

Are you looking to re-join the ranks of the good credit world? How can Quizzle help? Find out.

Certified Professional Insurance Agent Classes Return to Indiana ...

Professional Insurance Agents of Indiana (PIA), a statewide association of local, independent insurance agents, is the newest sponsor of the AIMS Society?s Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) designation program.

The CPIA program has not been offered in Indiana for several years.

Earning the CPIA designation requires completion of a series of Insurance Success Seminars. Each of the three, one day CPIA workshops teach practical before-, during- and after-the-sale techniques for producers, sales managers, account managers, service staff, and company marketing representatives.

PIA of Indiana will host the first two seminars in the series on Oct. 30 and 31, 2012.

Agents who complete the seminar can earn seven Indiana continuing education credits for each CPIA course.

Agency to Unveil Findings on Mental Health Services | The Hartford ...

HARTFORD ? Although many young boys experience emotional and behavioral problems that often result in school and social issues,?African American and Latino males are half as likely to receive mental health services compared to non-Hispanic white youth.

In Connecticut, state officials and local health agencies will address that issue by first releasing a report at?Connecticut State Capitol,? Judiciary Room from 3: 30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Connecticut Association of School Based Health??staff, supporters, advocates, educators, legislators, funders, students and parents will review ?key findings and recommendations from their 18-month research study, which investigated the use of mental health services among adolescent African American and Latino males in school-based health center settings.

Researchers will also share findings to help inform decisions of state and federal policy-makers who may struggle with questions around shrinking state resources, improving health outcomes and reducing incarceration rates for males of color. They also will share findings about barriers, such as access, perceptions and stigma, etc. that get in the way of the males? use of mental health services, and will share policy recomm

The Connecticut Association of School Based Health Centers partnered with the University of Connecticut School of Nursing and the Institute for Community Research to conduct the research with funding from the Connecticut Health Foundation and the Perrin Family Foundation.? The study found that:

  • SBHCs remove or mitigate barriers to mental health treatment for African-
  • American and Latino adolescent males including lack of transportation, lack of insurance, and stigma

?

  • SBHCs provide an atmosphere of safety, confidentiality and trust; characteristics that are of paramount importance to adolescent males
  • SBHCs have proven to be a valuable resource which allows easy access to comprehensive physical and mental health care for African-American and Latino adolescent males, a group of young men who are otherwise reluctant to engage in mental health services.

?School Based Health Centers provide a safe, confidential environment for students to express their concerns and learn to cope with stressors.? This access to mental health care in their school creates a connection that can improve their health and academic achievement?, said Jesse White-Fres?, Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of School Based Health Centers.

Braves walk off to playoff berth | Atlanta Braves

The Braves have been saying since the first day of spring training this season was going to be different, that they were going to put September?s collapse to good use.

They let the memory of Freddie Freeman throwing his helmet to the ground in disgust after hitting into a double play against the Phillies linger, and that?s OK. It was all the more reason to enjoy the trajectory of where that helmet ? and the Braves ? went Tuesday night.

That thing went flying high into the air at Turner Field after Freeman hit his first career walk-off home run to beat the Marlins 4-3, secure at least a wild card berth, make some history for Kris Medlen and follow a fist-pumping Chipper Jones into a scrum of ecstatic teammates at home plate.

?This is the coolest thing that?s ever happened to me,? said Freeman, whose close-cropped hair had been caked in mud and doused with champagne. ?2012 has come full circle. It?s a great moment, and it?s a great moment for this team.?

A year after the Braves blew an 8 ?-game wild card lead in September, the Braves clinched at least a spot in the Oct. 5 wild card playoff with eight games to spare. And they are still within four games of the Nationals for the NL East.

The Braves magic number to clinch home-field advantage over the Cardinals is three.

Nobody felt the release more than Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, who took the brunt of the heat for last September?s collapse and couldn?t hold back the tears when he was assured of a better fate this time around.

?You don?t know whether to laugh or cry or look for somebody to hug or slap on the back,? Gonzalez said.

His first phone call after the game was to his wife Pam, and the second to his mentor Bobby Cox.

?It was good,? said Gonzalez, choking up simply at the mention of it. ?I just listened a little bit.?

The Braves rallied around a retiring Cox the last time they made the postseason in 2010. This time around it?s Jones, and he?s the one doing the heavy lifting.

In the first game of his final regular season homestand, Jones drew a walk and scored the Braves first run, drove in their second with a sacrifice fly, and led off the ninth with a double off Mike Dunn.

?I feel like as long as I?ve got an at-bat in the ninth, we?ve got a chance,? said Jones, whose teammates and 25,632 fans at Turner Field felt the same way. ?I was lucky enough to set the table and Freddie Freeman mopped it up.?

Freeman normally loves the ambush, but remembered Dunn had thrown him a first-pitch slider last week in Miami. So he took the pitch, and it paid off as Jones advanced to third on the wild pitch. Two pitches later, just looking to drive something deep to score Jones, Freeman unleashed a 411-foot home run to straightaway center field.

Rising up out of his recliner in the Braves clubhouse was Medlen, who had pitched seven strong innings but left with a 3-2 deficit after giving up three runs on two swings by rookie Donovan Solano, the first two home runs of his career.

?I said some things I probably shouldn?t have said in there, things that I would do if (Freeman) hit a home run, and he did,? Medlen said. ?I am a man of my word but not really. Not to that extent.?

The Braves walked off to win for the record-tying 22nd straight time in games started by Medlen, a feat matched by only three pitchers since 1920. Medlen walked off in shower shoes, meeting his teammates in the hallway to celebrate.

The Giants won 22 straight behind Carl Hubbell in 1936-1937 and the Yankees won 22 straight for Whitey Ford in 1950 and 1953 in and around the two years he served in the Korean War.

The Braves haven?t lost one of Medlen?s starts since May 23, 2010 in Pittsburgh. He had just returned from elbow reconstruction surgery when the Braves collapsed last September. He pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief of that 13-inning loss to end the season.

Craig Kimbrel, who blew a save that day, pitched a scoreless ninth to win it Tuesday, and the Braves never saw extra innings.

?You can?t really win consistently until you lose,? Medlen said. ?You?ve got to have that heartbreak to know how to react in certain situations and how to bounce back.?

Greece sees bailout extension costing up to 15 billion euros

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greece would need an extra 13-15 billion euros to finance a two-year extension to its bailout but is confident of bridging that gap without burdening European taxpayers, Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras told Reuters on Tuesday.

Greece's new conservative-led government wants its lenders to grant it two more years to push through austerity cuts so that its recession-hit economy has time to recover, but had so far not specified the price tag for such an extension.

"We estimate the funding gap that would be created if we get the two-year extension at 13-15 billion euros," Stournaras said.

Greek officials have previously said such a gap could be covered through short-term debt or by seeking lower interest rates, or via a rollover of debt held by the ECB - avoiding forcing euro zone governments to stump up more money for Greece.

Stournaras also confirmed that the country's fiscal shortfall regarding its 2013 and 2014 targets remained at 13.5 billion euros - the value of budget measures Athens has been discussing with its lenders from the European Union and International Monetary Fund for weeks.

Earlier, a deputy finance minister said Greece may seek a rollover of its ECB-held bonds or try to raise additional short-term debt to plug any potential financing gaps in the coming years.

If Greece's budget gap or privatization revenues fall short of the targets set out in its second bailout, the country might face a financing gap, deputy finance minister Christos Staikouras said in a written response to a lawmaker dated September 19. He did not specify how big that gap might be.

"With a view to covering the financing gap, and given that the eurosystem is holding 28 billion euros of Greek bonds maturing in 2013-2016, the possibility of rolling over the maturities will be examined," Staikouras said.

The ECB has so far refused to face any losses on the bonds it has purchased over past years to prop up Greek debt.

Staikouras also said that Greece might have to raise more money from debt markets in 2015 and 2016 than the 10.6 billion euros foreseen in its bailout agreement earlier this year.

EU officials have speculated Greece might need a second debt restructuring to get its finances back on track.

Civilian contractors face negative image, mission requirements

By Stuart Tiffen, NBC News contributor

Scott Dennis, a 42-year-old Air Force veteran, never considered outright retirement after getting out of the military in 2009. Instead he went to work for private military and security firms and soon found himself back in Afghanistan.

"It was an easy decision," he told NBC News, saying he couldn't afford to not work and wasn't ready for a life of leisure. "The only drawback was the extended time away from home."

But as criticism continues to swirl around the private security firm formerly known as Blackwater, civilian contractors serving in combat zones, like Dennis, find themselves caught between the demand for their services and negative perceptions in the public and even the military.?Sometimes creative measures must be taken to ensure their own safety.?

On Sept 11, Rep. John Tierney, D-Mass., called for steeper fines and a potential ban on all future contracts for the private military and security contracting ?firm formerly known as Blackwater. Now on its third name, Academi (also formerly known as Xe) agreed in August to pay $7.5 million to settle charges for weapons export violations.?

?This has been a repeated problem that?s gone on ? this isn?t a one-off situation, and it?s not just Blackwater,? Tierney told POLITICO last Tuesday.??We?ve had companies taking millions of dollars from taxpayers, repeatedly making questionable decisions. ... If we don?t hold them accountable, then it?s going to keep happening.?

A day later Alan Estevez, assistant secretary of defense for logistics and materiel readiness, and Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Craig Crenshaw, the Joint Staff?s vice director of logistics, testified in favor of the use of private firms before the House Armed Services Committee, recommending that the Department of Defense ?continue its momentum? in the increasing use and role of civilian contractors.

It?s against this conflicting backdrop that the men and women in the private military and security contracting industry ??where many veterans turn for employment after military service???find themselves.?

Dennis had been a recruiter and then a loadmaster on special operations forces aircraft serving in Afghanistan before he retired. The unfolding financial crisis had him worried about job security, but there was never really any doubt about seeking employment with a contracting firm, he said.?

Though he initially took a pay cut when he worked at firms such as the Virginia-based Dyncorp and Los Angeles-based McNeil Technologies (now AECOM), Dennis eventually found he was making more than three times his previous active-duty salary.?

His contracting jobs were nothing like his former aviation career, however. During a one-year stint with McNeil Technologies, Dennis was stationed at a forward operating base ?in western Afghanistan, driving around the countryside in an armored vehicle with an Afghan liaison.?

Dennis said he was concerned about the lack of safety net for contractors in Afghanistan. He worked hard to make sure the Americans in uniform would remember he was essentially one of them.?

?There is very little support for contractors if something goes bad outside the wire and you need help,? Dennis said. ?I tried to develop strong relationships with (active-duty military members) at my forward operating base; that way they had a face to go with the name if I needed help.??

Perception of civilian contractors took a hit among the military as well as the general public after the 2007 Blackwater shootings in Baghdad. Dennis said he thinks contractors are perhaps over-regulated now partially because of the resulting blowback.

?After the incidents in Iraq they became the poster child of the evil contractors shooting up towns,? he said. ?Most contractors are not armed now, and I think (that lack of weapons)?may take away what little self defense contractors had.?

And there is little leeway for illicit defensive measures. He recounted the tale of a colleague who?d lost his job for carrying an M4 rifle while out in the field in Afghanistan.

But there are real risks that come along with the job: More than 2,700 American civilian contractors have died in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001, according to numbers?published by the Department of Labor.

Despite the fact that many contractors are also veterans, relations between the civilians and military are not always convivial, Dennis said.

?I?ve seen contractors mistreated on a regular basis when it comes to living conditions and other things,? he said. ?There is kind of a mindset of ?They are making lots of money, so screw those guys.??

Avalanche on Nepal peak kills at least 9 climbers

KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) ? Rescue helicopters flew over the high slopes of a northern Nepal peak again Monday to search for climbers lost in an avalanche that killed at least nine mountaineers and injured others. Many of the climbers were French, German and Italian.

The avalanche a day earlier hit a camp with more than two dozen climbers high up the slopes of the world's eighth-highest peak, Mount Manaslu. It came at the start of Nepal's autumn climbing season, when the end of the monsoon rains makes weather in the high Himalayas unpredictable.

Police official Basanta Bahadur Kuwar said three rescue helicopters resumed the search on Monday morning. Bad weather had forced them to halt flyover searching Sunday afternoon. Other climbers and guides on the mountain were also searching on foot and had managed to bring three more bodies to the base camp on Monday, Kuwar said.

The bodies of a Nepalese guide and a German man were recovered on Sunday and rescue pilots had reported spotting seven other bodies on the slopes. Spain's Foreign Ministry said from Madrid that one climber killed was Spanish. The identities of the others were still being confirmed.

Ten climbers survived, but many were injured and were flown to hospitals by rescue helicopters.

Nepal's autumn mountaineering season is less popular than spring, when hundreds of climbers crowd the high Himalayan peaks. Italian, German and French teams were on the mountain, with a total of 231 climbers and guides, but not all were at the higher camps hit by the avalanche, officials said.

The avalanche hit a camp at 7,000 meters (22,960 feet) early in the morning as the climbers were preparing to head toward the summit, which is 8,156 meters (26,760 feet) high.

Rescue pilot Pasang, who uses only one name, said three injured French citizens and two Germans had been transported to hospitals in Katmandu. He said rescuers were also attempting to bring the bodies of the dead back to the base camp.

Nepal has eight of the 14 highest peaks in the world. Climbers have complained in recent years that climbing conditions have deteriorated and risks of accidents have increased.

Veteran mountain guide Apa, who has climbed Mount Everest a record 21 times, traveled for months across Nepal earlier this year campaigning about the effects of global warming on the mountain peaks.

He told The Associated Press the mountains now have considerably less ice and snow, making it harder for climbers to use ice axes and crampons on their boots to get a grip on the slopes.

Loose snow also increases the risk of avalanches. The cause of Sunday's avalanche was not immediately determined.

Bill Amos, of Portland, Oregon, an avid mountaineer and ice climber who founded the mountaineering apparel company NW Alpine, said "it's super sad when our fellow climbers die." Amos said his initial thought when he heard about the deadly avalanche in Nepal was that the mountain was being overcrowded with climbers.

"That seems to be the same thing that's going on in Everest," he said. "All of that is overcrowding and these commercial expeditions trying to make money."

Amos added that people who venture into the mountains need to understand the risks and dangers associated with backcountry travel and be able to spot avalanche terrain and dangerous snowpack.

The Specifics of the Business Analyst?s Job Depending on the Types of Projects and Methodologies

In the modern variety of methodologies of software development many young business specialists tend to ask the following questions. Chinese miss Japan Open as diplomatic row rages

(Reuters) - China has withdrawn its badminton players from this week's Japan Open and a Japanese cycling team has been kicked out of a race in China amid a worsening political crisis over disputed islands.

Yoshio Sekine, vice-chairman of the Japan Badminton Association, confirmed on Tuesday that the players from China had pulled out of the tournament.

"Chinese athletes cancelled their appearance in this tournament, which is unfortunate," he said at a Japan Open news conference, without discussing the motives for their withdrawal.

"However, there are still a lot of good athletes in this tournament and I am sure they will put on a good performance."

Another official at the event said that while he had not heard any specific reason for their absence "some sort of political reason could be suspected".

A long-standing dispute over an uninhabited group of islands in the East China Sea -- known as the Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China -- took a fresh twist on Tuesday after two Japanese activists landed on one of the islands.

Beijing described the landing as provocative, lodged a complaint with Tokyo and said it reserved the right to "take further action".

As anti-Japan protests flared across China, cycling's governing body (UCI) expressed concern for Japanese riders taking part in races there.

"What matters is everyone's safety and it is true that the situation can become worrying," the UCI's Global Cycling Promotion director Alain Rumpf told Reuters.

"For the moment, we are being told that the Japanese interests in China can be threatened".

A UCI official told Reuters that Japanese team Aisan had been kicked out of the Tour of China and that there were fears a similar move could be made at the October 9-13 Tour of Beijing.

"It is true that Japanese were expelled," UCI President Pat McQuaid told Reuters.

It was unclear whether a Japanese rider from a Malaysian team had also been kicked out.

BADMINTON FATIGUE

Li Yongbo, the general coach of China's badminton team, was reported as saying the cancellation was due to the team's tiredness after playing at the Olympics, the Badminton Super League and the Masters Super Series in a row.

Li could not be reached by a Reuters reporter.

An employee of the Table Tennis & Badminton Management Center at General Administration of Sport of China said the decision to miss the tournament in Japan had been made in the past two days, but she would not say why.

The political row escalated on the anniversary of Japan's pre-war invasion of its giant neighbour, with relations between Asia's two biggest economies deteriorating badly.

The dispute led to a day of anti-Japan protests in China.

Japanese businesses shut hundreds of stores and plants across China and Japan's embassy in Beijing again came under siege by protesters hurling water bottles, waving Chinese flags, and chanting anti-Japan slogans, evoking war-time enmity.

Last week the Japanese government decided to nationalise some of the islands, buying them from a private Japanese owner, in a move which inflamed the dispute.

Political analysts say China also upped the stakes last week when it announced precise boundaries for waters it claims around the islands.

China's badminton elite would appear to be another casualty of the diplomatic row.

Brief profiles of the leading Chinese players still appeared on the tournament's website on Tuesday in a section highlighting favourites for victory.

Japanese player Sho Sasaki was disappointed the Chinese would not be taking part.

"Honestly speaking, I enjoy playing against opponents from China," he said. "It is one of the things I look forward to, and without their presence in this tournament, there is something that seems lacking."

Their absence opens the door for Malaysia's world number two Lee Chong Wei to reclaim the title, having suffered a shock defeat to China's Chen Long in last year's title match.

"It's unfortunate that China have withdrawn as it will certainly dilute the level of competition," Malaysia's singles coach Rashid Sidek said. "Chong Wei is our trump card."

With the Chinese out of the men's draw, Lee Chong Wei is seeded first seed, Denmark's Peter Gade second, Simon Santoso of Indonesia third and Japan's Sho seeded fourth.

The women's draw is headed by Dane Tine Baun, South Korea's Ji Hyun-sung, Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, and South Korean Yeon Ju-bae.

Rock on!: Giving My Daughter The Best She Deserves

Whether at home or in school, moms like me would always want to make her child happy, especially if it?s about the food he/she eats. This is why I make sure that I give only the best for my daughter.

Usually, we would give our child something special for a good deed at home or for an achievement in school, as a form of reward or probably just to show our love for our child.

If you ask me what is that "something" that would literally make her eyes glow, oh well, it's chocolate. And not just an ordinary chocolate, it's also her favorite baon in school. It's?Knick Knacks X-Blast Chocolate Milk Drink!

Generally touted as ?comfort food? for adults and kids alike, chocolate has always been a food of choice to give to somebody special. For many Moms out there, chocolate is the simplest yet most meaningful item they can give to their child, whether as a form of reward, a gift, or just to show how much she loves her kid.

One particular snack Moms can try giving their precious one is ?Knick Knacks.? A leading brand in the biscuits category, ?Knick Knacks? gave to kids around the world those popular ?fish-shaped? biscuits coated in yummy and tasty chocolate, choco on choco, milk and strawberry.

And now this same tried and tested brand of truly delicious biscuits introduced another delightful product any kid or even a kid at heart will surely love --?Knick Knacks X-Blast Chocolate Milk Drink!

So for the Open House at my daughter's school, I gave her?Knick Knacks X-Blast Chocolate Milk Drink and cheese waffle for baon. It was a blast! Here are some pics:

So going back to Maia's favorite baon..

Launched middle of this year, the KnickKnacks X-Blast Chocolate Milk Drink, with its unbeatable chocolatey taste, is the latest in the impressive lineup of products from Knick Knacks. From now on, Moms? shopping carts will definitely include a pack or two of Knick Knacks X-Blast Chocolate Milk Drink so they can give their kid something to look forward to in his lunch box.

Why not? Kids, more often than not, will ignore the contents of their lunch box once they open it and find it dull or unappealing. Their next action most likely is to compare their lunch box with that of their classmates. Worse, they?d ask for a share of their classmate?s baon so that they will have something to eat. Now that?s a scary scenario for parents to think about. And moreso, your child?s snacking experience in school together with his classmates will not be such a fun time anymore.

It?s a good thing that the Knick-Knacks X-Blast Chocolate Milk Drink is now available so that Moms can give their kids something else to smile about in school. And even if not in school, kids would surely enjoy Knick Knacks X-Blast Chocolate Milk Drink in the company of classmates or friends during break time, snack time, play time, movie time or just about any time of the day.
